I can enable push on my ipad 4th generation after er-adding the mail account. but with my iphone 5s and my ipad mini it is not possible. there is no push option available in the settings menu.. Possibly, gmail doesn't get push mail option either. if you need those push mail options, you should search for mail apps in the app store. i use the email app, it suits my needs perfectly.. Iphone supports true push email. it does not support the imap idle protocol, which is not "true push", and is mostly regarded as garbage. imap push is not a widely used protocol since most providers use their own implementation of it (apple uses it for their icloud mail)..
